CAMP LOCAL, CAMP GREEN, CAMP RAC!
The Riverside Arts Center has gone campy! They are offering 6 weeks of fresh green art camps this summer. RAC is switching to recycled paper, paint, and salvaged materials in an effort to become a deeper shade of green. Sign up now for full or half day camps featuring Chinese writing and culture, soap making, print making, drawing, painting, sculpture, and clay. Full camp is Monday thru Friday, from 8:30AM to 3:30PM. Half Camp Early meets from 8:30AM to 1PM, and Half Camp Late from 11AM to 3:30PM. Partial camp, or per class registration will also be available in late April, giving students the opportunity to sign up for 2-hour camp segments.

Summer Art Camps
The long-awaited art camp extravaganza is finally here. Kids will spend the entire afternoon, every day of the week at the arts center! The fun includes attending 3 classes a day in rotation while sampling everything the arts center has to offer. Classes will be taught by RAC staff and include projects in all media from acrylic painting and clay sculpture to paper making and wheel throwing. Students should come dressed for making a wonderfully creative mess, and bring a snack and a lunch for full day camp.
RAC Art Camps 2009
Instructors: Xue Yan Fang, Tami Gagne, John Harmon, Grace Heraty, Heather Hug, Katie Delbecq, Tariq Tamir,  and Shawn Vincent.
Camp instruction will include a little taste of every fine art we offer from clay to watercolor.
CAMP 1 MUD AND MIXED MEDIA JUNE 8-12 AGES 8-UP
Projects include clay texture mosaics, collage with clay objects, wheel throwing, Chinese brush work and crafts, sun prints, soap making, screen printing, wire and found object sculpture and print making.
CAMP 2 PAINT, PAPER AND MUD JUNE 15-19 AGES 5-7
Projects include multi media collage, Chinese culture and crafts, paper making and recycling, mini totem poles, painting, wheelies, kaleidoscopes, wall pockets, mask making, and wire sculpture.
CAMP 3 ANIMAL, VEGETABLE, MINERAL JUNE 22-26 AGES 5+
Projects include papier mache animals, coil boxes, bowls with animals, wheel throwing, Chinese language and stories, faux foods, animal and nature stamping, clay houses, mixed up felt foods, soap making, clay plates, cups, and silverware, clay Sushi dishes and food, and pipe cleaner sculpture.
CAMP 4 PERSON, PLACE, THING JULY 6-10 AGES12+
Projects include mixed media self portraits, portraits in clay, screen printing, Chinese arts and language, wheel thrown mini tea sets, coil slab and pinch vessels, wheel thrown lidded jars, 3-D clay THINGS, and wire sculpture.
CAMP 5 PAINT, PAPER AND MUD JULY 13-17 AGES 8+
Projects include comic flip book stories, paper making and sculpture, sun prints, Chinese arts and language, painting and drawing, village creations, pop-up cities, puffy pillow vases and vessels, wheel throwing, clay sculpture, and wire creatures.
CAMP 6 MUD AND MIXED MEDIA JULY 20-24 AGES 5-7
Projects include treasure box making, Chinese stories and games, clay and found object sculpture, crayon 'stained glass',  life size self portrait collages, puppet making, wheel throwing, printmaking, shadow boxes, and pipe cleaner sculptures.

Activities Include:
  • Educating people on small changes in our daily habits that collectively make a large impact.
  • Working with the community to raise awareness and foster sustainable eco-friendly habits.
  • Recognizing individuals and groups that are making a difference today.

EARTH DAY - APRIL 25th

Paint Drop Off at the RIVERSIDE ARTS CENTER

In honor of Earth Day, s.e.e.d.s. and the Riverside Arts Center will be joing the Village Hall Sustainability Council in activities for the day!

We are in need of latex paints and will be accepting your old cans at the Arts Center from now through April 24th, Tues - Sat, 1-5 pm (708) 442-6400.  (maximum size cans accepted will be a gallon) 

Whatever we can't use will be recycled or properly disposed of.
